Celebrating School Well-Being through a Day of Mindfulness at Global Sevilla Pulo Mas

Sevilla Pulo Mas Commemorates Day of Mindfulness with Holistic Community Workshops

Global Sevilla marked its birthday on 6 October 2025 with a tradition that has become central to its identity: the Day of Mindfulness. Guided by the theme From Pause to Purpose, Living Life by Design, the school community came together to celebrate not only another year of growth but also its ongoing commitment to school well-being, mindfulness practices, and character building.

As part of the school-wide celebration, the Global Sevilla Pulo Mas campus held its own Day of Mindfulness, where students, parents, and teachers gathered to honour the occasion through a programme filled with meaningful activities.

From Reflection to Celebration

At the Pulo Mas campus, the Day of Mindfulness began in the morning with a series of engaging workshops that invited students, teachers, and parents to explore various mindfulness practices together. These morning sessions set a calm and reflective tone for the entire day, allowing participants to experience mindfulness through creative, physical, and meditative activities.

The main celebration took place in the afternoon, marking the highlight of the school’s anniversary. The programme opened with a silent moment that invited calmness and presence across the entire school community, followed by the singing of the school song, which strengthened the sense of belonging and unity among students, teachers, and staff.

Welcoming remarks were delivered by Mr Andrew Soebali, President of Yayasan, setting an uplifting tone for the celebration. This was followed by a speech by Mr Vincent Jaya Saputra, the school founder, who reflected on Global Sevilla’s ongoing journey and its dedication to nurturing mindfulness-based education.

Flower bouquets were then presented as a gesture of appreciation to Bapak Kentjana Widjaja, Professor Dr Abdul Mu’ti, Mr Yudie Soenjoto, and Dr Asheena Baez. The celebration continued with the ceremonial cutting of the Nasi Tumpeng, a meaningful tradition symbolising gratitude and unity within the school community.

Next, Professor Dr Abdul Mu’ti, the Indonesian academic and politician currently serving as the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, delivered a speech on the role of mindfulness in education and its importance in nurturing both academic excellence and emotional balance. His message resonated deeply with the audience, reinforcing the school’s vision of fostering character, compassion, and purpose in learning.

The entire school community then joined together in the joyful singing of the Birthday Song, followed by a silent prayer that grounded everyone in appreciation and reflection. To conclude the celebration, the audience watched a video message from Pak Sudhamek, another founder of Global Sevilla, whose words offered encouragement and inspiration to all.

This thoughtful sequence of events showcased how Global Sevilla seamlessly weaves reflection and celebration together, creating a meaningful experience that honours both mindfulness and togetherness.

A Day of Mindfulness for the Whole Community

After the birthday ceremony, the focus moved to the Day of Mindfulness itself. A highlight of the day was the Mindful Talk with Dr Asheena Baez, who addressed the Pulo Mas school community as well as invited guests. Her session offered perspectives on the role of mindfulness in education, personal growth, and daily life, giving participants practical insights they could carry forward.

Exploring Mindfulness through Workshops

In addition to the keynote session, the Day of Mindfulness at Pulo Mas featured a variety of workshops that encouraged active participation from all members of the school community. Each activity represented a different pathway towards cultivating mindfulness and well-being.

Mindful Reading: Pause in Words was guided by Ms Jaclyn and Mr Ishom. This session allowed participants to experience the calming effect of words and literature when approached with presence.

Mindful Photography: Capture with Clarity was led by Ms Sani and Mr El. Through this activity, participants learned to observe their surroundings attentively and capture meaningful moments through the lens.

Mindful Journaling: Recognise, Reflect, Release was conducted by Mr Fabrissa. Participants were encouraged to write with intention, using journaling as a tool to process emotions and clarify thoughts.

Mindful Yoga: Breathe into Being was guided by Ms Mira. This session focused on connecting movement with breath, enabling participants to find stillness through physical awareness.

Mindful Cooking: Nourish by Design was conducted by Ms Nathania and Ms Aarti. This activity emphasised the importance of mindful preparation and enjoyment of food as a way to nurture both body and mind.

Mindful Art: Colour Your Calm was led by Ms Evelyn and Mr Lucky. Participants expressed themselves creatively, using art as a medium for relaxation and self-discovery.

These workshops exemplified Global Sevilla’s dedication to providing holistic experiences for students, parents, and teachers alike. They showed how mindfulness practices can be seamlessly woven into various aspects of life, from reading and writing to movement, cooking, and creativity.

Parents, Teachers, and Students as One Community

What made the Pulo Mas celebration especially meaningful was the involvement of every part of the school community. Parents, teachers, and students participated side by side, highlighting the belief that education and school well-being are not the responsibility of one group alone but a shared journey.

When students see their parents and teachers modelling mindfulness, they recognise that these practices are not just lessons taught in the classroom but life skills to be embraced every day. Parents, too, gained valuable insights by engaging in mindful activities alongside their children, discovering new ways to nurture calm, resilience, and connection at home. Teachers, meanwhile, benefitted from moments of reflection that strengthened their own sense of presence, which in turn enhances their teaching practice.

This collective participation reinforced the principle that character building thrives in an environment where the entire community works together. The Day of Mindfulness became more than a school event. It became a living example of collaboration, empathy, and mutual growth.

Mindfulness as a Cornerstone of Education

The Day of Mindfulness at Global Sevilla Pulo Mas reaffirmed the school’s vision of being a leading mindfulness-based international school in Jakarta. By dedicating its birthday celebration to reflection and intentional living, Global Sevilla highlighted its commitment to embedding mindfulness practices into education and daily routines.

This approach goes beyond academic achievement. It fosters resilience, empathy, and emotional intelligence within the entire school community. By celebrating with mindful activities, Global Sevilla demonstrated that school well-being is not only about academic success but also about cultivating balance, compassion, and purpose.

Living Life by Design

The theme From Pause to Purpose, Living Life by Design captured the spirit of the day. It reminded the school community that mindfulness is not only about pausing but also about choosing intentional responses to life’s moments. Through silence, song, shared meals, workshops, and dialogue, participants experienced how purposeful pauses can shape a more meaningful and balanced life.

As Global Sevilla celebrated another year, the Day of Mindfulness stood as a testament to the school’s enduring values and its mission to nurture future generations who live with awareness, compassion, and purpose.
