Celebrating School Well-Being through a Day of Mindfulness at Global Sevilla Puri Indah
Beyond a Day: Puri Indah Campus Embraces a Full Week of Mindful Activities and Community Engagement
Global Sevilla marked its birthday on 6 October 2025 with its annual tradition, the Day of Mindfulness. Guided by the theme From Pause to Purpose, Living Life by Design, the celebration reflected the school’s ongoing commitment to school well-being, mindfulness practices, and character building. This year, the Global Sevilla Puri Indah campus held a meaningful programme that brought together students, teachers, and parents to honour the occasion.
A Mindful Opening to the Celebration
The morning began with a silent moment, inviting the entire school community into a space of calm and presence. This was followed by the singing of the school song, performed by kindergarten, primary, and secondary students, which strengthened the sense of unity across all levels. A mindfulness practice was then led by Ms Gold, guiding participants to centre themselves and reflect on the importance of awareness in daily life. The programme continued with welcoming remarks and a birthday message delivered by Mr Randy, offering encouragement and gratitude on this special day.
A highlight of the opening was the Gratitude Wall, a commemorative activity where the school community came together to express appreciation. This initiative served as a reminder that mindfulness also means recognising and valuing the people and experiences that enrich our lives. The atmosphere then shifted to one of celebration as the KG Idols led the singing of the Birthday Song. This joyful moment was followed by the cutting of the Nasi Tumpeng, a symbolic tradition carried out by students, teachers, and parents together. The involvement of all groups in this ritual emphasised the unity of the school community and the shared spirit of gratitude. The opening concluded with a silent moment, closing the ceremony in reflection and calm.
Following the morning programme, selected participants from the Puri Indah campus continued the celebration by joining the Mindful Talk with Dr Asheena Baez at the Global Sevilla Pulo Mas campus. This session connected the two campuses in a shared experience of learning and reflection, reinforcing the idea that the Day of Mindfulness is a school-wide tradition within a leading mindfulness-based school.
Day of Mindfulness for Teachers and Staff
Before the full Mindfulness Week began, teachers and staff at Puri Indah participated in a dedicated Day of Mindfulness designed to nurture their well-being and strengthen their role as mindful educators. The activities included Mindful Reading, which invited participants to pause and find presence in words, and Mindful Tea Drinking, which encouraged appreciation of simplicity and intentionality in daily routines. There was also a Mindful Choir session, which used collective singing as a way to cultivate harmony and connection, and Mindful Art, where teachers and staff expressed themselves creatively while reflecting on inner calm. This special day highlighted that mindfulness is not only practised in the classroom with students but is also lived and experienced by the educators themselves. By supporting teachers and staff, Global Sevilla reinforces its commitment to school well-being across every layer of its community.
Mindfulness Week at Puri Indah
The spirit of mindfulness continued throughout the week with a series of activities for students, teachers, and parents, creating a rhythm of reflection and celebration across five days.
On Monday, the Global Sevilla School Birthday was marked with the opening programme, which included a silent moment, mindfulness practice, commemorative Gratitude Wall, birthday message, singing by the KG Idols, the symbolic cutting of the Nasi Tumpeng, and a closing reflection. Later in the day, the community joined Dr Asheena Baez for inspiring sessions designed for parents, primary students, secondary students, and teachers at Global Sevilla Pulo Mas, further uniting both campuses in shared mindfulness practices.
On Tuesday, the Day of Mindfulness was held at Puri Indah, beginning in the morning with the whole school community participating in activities designed to strengthen awareness and balance. The following day, Wednesday, was dedicated to House Games, where students came together in the gymnasium wearing their house colours. The games encouraged teamwork, cooperation, and joy, all underpinned by the values of mindfulness and sportsmanship.
Thursday began with a Community-Wide Mindful Meditation at the soccer field. With yoga mats laid out, students and teachers joined in a session of collective calm and reflection. On the same day, parents were invited to a seminar titled How to Talk About Failure, which was followed by a mindfulness session that included sound healing and mindful tea drinking. These events ensured that parents were not only witnesses to the school’s values but also active participants in the practice of mindfulness.
The week concluded on Friday with Community Service and a Potluck celebration. Students, teachers, and parents joined together in acts of service within the school premises, embodying the spirit of giving and gratitude. Afterwards, the community gathered for a potluck meal, strengthening the bonds between families, educators, and students through shared food and conversation.
Looking Ahead
The Day of Mindfulness and the week-long activities at Puri Indah demonstrated how celebration and mindfulness can come together to strengthen school well-being and character building. Through these carefully designed experiences, Global Sevilla reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing a school community that pauses with purpose and lives with design. As an international school in Jakarta, Global Sevilla continues to lead by example, showing how mindfulness practices can create meaningful connections between parents, teachers, and students, and ensure that education extends far beyond academics.
